Electronic sports or better known as esports has been gaining popularity and prominence rapidly over the years. Millions of viewers tune in to watch competitive tournaments, and it has become so popular that the games can often be viewed as arena events. The esports industry generated an annual revenue of US$1 billion for the first time in 2019, and this is expected to reach US$1.5 billion this year. The rising popularity of esports has led to the International Olympic Committee's announcement that the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris will feature demonstration esports events.
Knowing the immense impact that the esports industry can have on children, we are organising a Roblox workshop game development and coding workshop. This workshop will be conducted by Ng Wei Kiet, an alumnus of Dwi Emas International School and a Roblox Developer with 4 years of experience in developing games on Roblox Studio.
In this workshop, children of different ages will be able to explore the fundamentals of developing a game on Roblox. This includes world building, maze creation, understanding 3D Modelling with Roblox Studio, understanding of Lua code, understanding UI designing, coding and publishing a working game. The workshop culminates on the third day when parents are invited to test play the games with the children.
The purpose of this workshop is for kids to practice problem solving and sharpen their analytical and critical thinking skills in a fun way. It is also to bring an awareness about the inner works and impact of gaming in society. Furthermore, we aim to further promote bonding between parents and children.
